Project introduction

The Western Custody Suite is a new build ‘super prison’ located on a 3.4 acre site in Oldbury. It houses 60 cells, holding rooms, interview rooms, consultation rooms, evidence gathering rooms and offices.

How the work was delivered

FM services required by West Midlands Police cover elements including: Internal, External and Emergency Lighting and control panels, Mains electrical distribution equipment, Electrical Power outlets and Controls, PAT Testing (over 200 items), HVAC systems, Gas fired boilers and associated flues, Combined Heating and Power, Plant, Domestic water services, Sanitary equipment, Roller shutters, gates, barriers, doors and ironmongery, CCTV, Cell Call & Intercom, Affray Alarm, Fire Alarm, Intruder Alarm, Induction Loops. Before starting all our Engineers and Operatives undergo intensive training, induction and vetting (Non Police Personnel Vetting – Level 1) as standard – which ensured West Midlands Police were comfortable with our service from the offset.

Our close proximity to the M6/M5, means we are well equipped to respond to all emergency call outs exceeding the agreed two hour response time. All our FM team have mobile workshops in their vans and carry sufficient spares to rectify most calls on the first visit. All operatives carry dual-branded ID and are easily identifiable by liveried vans and Mossvale branded uniform.
The Western Custody Suite was Mossvale’s first project for West Midlands Police. The success of this project led to our appointment at West Midlands Police Head Office, Lloyd House, where we are currently 2 years into our building services maintenance contract.
